FAQs

How much do you charge?

Each project is different, and there are many factors that influence how much time and effort a project will take. I’ll provide a quote for your document based on its length, a sample of ~500 words, the level of editing you’re looking for, and the type of file (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .tex/Overleaf, Google doc).

I aim to be fully transparent about how I calculate my quotes, and I welcome you to ask questions as they come up.

Finally, I factor in a discount for people of marginalized identities, including POC, queer, trans, and disabled folks, and sex workers on the honor system. When requesting a quote via the contact page, you can check a box to take advantage of this discount.

How does it work?

Visit the Contact page to submit details about your project. I’ll respond within 24 hours with any clarifying questions and a quote that you’re free to accept or decline.

I require payment upfront in most cases, so once you accept my quote and we agree upon the terms, I’ll send you an invoice via your chosen method of payment. Longer orders may be subject to a split payment of half upfront and half when the project is complete. I currently accept payment via PayPal, Venmo, and IBAN transfer.

I will return your work by the agreed-upon date and time, usually in two files—one with all tracked changes, and one clean document with all changes accepted—plus a summary of the major changes, when appropriate.

What makes you so special?

Beyond basic editing responsibilities, I care about helping you understand your recurring mistakes and how to fix them by offering comments throughout your document to explain why certain changes were necessary. I also care about the equitable use of language and will point out terms and phrases that could be changed to be more inclusive and culturally sensitive, with less potential to be offensive. However, I never pretend to be an expert on topics outside my lane and will suggest hiring a more qualified sensitivity reader when I feel it’s necessary.

How do I know I’ll like your work?

I understand the need to build trust, so I’m happy to do a sample edit of up to 500 words of your work before you agree to work with me to ensure that you’ll be satisfied with my quality and style of editing.
